

Dr. Colin Shapiro

Dr. Shapiro has been involved in sleep research for over twenty-five years. He trained in medicine in South Africa subsequently doing his PhD in sleep physiology at the University of Edinburgh. He came to Canada approximately eighteen years ago as a Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. He is Director of the Neuropsychiatry Program at the Toronto Western Hospital and Director of the Sleep and Alertness Clinic.
He has over 200 publications in this field and a dozen books including a book on forensic aspects of sleep and several books for the lay public the most recent of which is titled “Fighting Fatigue and Sleepiness”. He also co-authored “Working the Shift” and a children’s book “Who needs to sleep anyway”
One of his interests is sleep changes in psychiatric disease and extent to which sleep markers are helpful in psychiatry. The book entitled “Contemporary Neuropsychiatry” deals with Dr. Shapiro’s interest in Neuropsychiatry and stems from a conference in Japan by the International Neuropsychiatry Association which he helped set up. Three years ago he opened the first independent child and adolescent sleep clinic in Canada.

Dr. Stephen K.C. Ho
DDS, MSc, FRCD(C), FADSA
Dr. Ho completed his dental training at the University of Toronto. He then completed a hospital dental residency jointly at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Chicago. Dr. Ho returned to the University of Toronto for his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Anesthesia. Dr. Ho has taken post-graduate medical education in Sleep Apnea Diagnosis and Treatment.
Dr. Ho has focused expertise in the area of Obstructive Sleep Apnea as well as CT-based 3D treatment planning for dental implants, corrective jaw surgery and airway size determination. Dr. Ho’s 3D treatment planning expertise has allowed him to participate as a lecturer, legal consultant and professional resource to other dental specialists performing their own surgery.
Dr. Ho founded the Credit Valley Oral Surgery Sleep Treatment Clinic in 2009. The clinic has been a trusted provider of coordinated care between dentists, family physicians, sleep physicians and CPAP providers for 6 years. Dr. Ho’s facial airway imaging technology and deep knowledge of both surgical and non-surgical solutions in the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea allows patients to have individualized solutions to their sleep breathing problems. For those that have failed CPAP and oral appliances in the past, Dr. Ho has developed a Maxillomandibular Advancement (MMA) procedure that does not require the patient to wear braces and has successfully cured patients of their Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Dr. Ho has access to level 3 home sleep testing that does not require the patient to visit a sleep lab.
Dr. Ho is currently involved in research and product development in the area of Obstructive Sleep Apnea treatment, Implant Surgical Navigation and 3D printing.

Dr. David Rawson
DDS, D.ACSDD, D.ABCP, FAACP, FICD
Dr. Rawson is a 1974 graduate of Dentistry from the University of Western Ontario. He opened a general practice in London in 1979 and soon developed a keen interest in chronic head and neck pain, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD), orthodontics and sleep disordered breathing including snoring and sleep apnea. In 2003, Dr. Rawson opened the TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of London, Ontario. The Centre is solely dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.
Dr. Rawson is the founder and President of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorders and Disciplines.

Dr. Sharon Ann-Marie Chung
BSc, MSc, PhD
Sharon Ann-Marie Chung is a Staff Scientist at the University Health Network, Department of Psychiatry, Sleep Research Unit. She obtained her Doctorate Degree in Physiology from the University in Toronto and did her Post-Doctoral training in Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Chung has been conducting research for over 20 years. She joined the University Health Network in 1995 immediately after completing her Post-Doctoral studies and began working in the field Clinical Sleep Research.
Dr. Chung is the recipient of several research grants, both past and present, and she has 21 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Chung has been featured in the National Post newspaper, has been an advisor for several magazine articles (Men’s Health Magazine, HomeMakers’ Magazine, Readers’ Digest) and has given television (CTV News) and radio interviews.

Dr. Samantha Bohay

Dr. Bohay completed her dental training at the University of Manitoba and has been in private practice for more than 17 years. Dr. Bohay has focused expertise in the area of Sleep Dentistry and is Director of the Dental Sleep Medicine Team at the Sleep and Alertness Clinic.
